There is no better
way to see the Great Glen linking Loch Dochfour, Loch Ness, Loch Oich and Loch Lochy than
cruising down the Caledonian Canal. This route has all the advantages of sailing and none
of the downsides - like waves. Loch Ness is undeniably one of the most famous lakes in the world. It is also, certainly, a place of outstanding natural beauty, but it has to be admitted that the world wide fame of Loch Ness owes more to the legend of its famous occupant, the Loch Ness Monster - or 'Nessie' than the breathtaking location of the loch itself. |

The haunting beauty of Glencoe is a
backdrop for the famous 17th century massacre . Two clans, the MacDonalds of Glencoe and
the Campbells of Argyll, embodied the Scottish definition of rivalry and revenge.A day trip over to Skye and a tour of the famous island with its connections to 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' is a must for all tourists, if you wish you can visit
Flora Macdonalds grave. It was Flora that helped the the prince escape disguised as the strange looking 'Betty Burke' slip away into the night across the Minch. The gowns, the petticoats, the snood, cloak and white cap were a perfect fit, all was well bar the big clumsy boots which almost gave the game away. Be sure
to visit the Glenfinnan Monument. The monument, situated on
the scenic Road to the Isles, is set amid superb Highland scenery at the head of Loch
Shiel. It was erected in 1815 in tribute to the clansmen who fought and died in the
Jacobite cause. Prince Charles Edward Stuart's standard was raised near here over 250
years ago in 1745. Despite its inspired beginnings, the campaign came to a grim conclusion
on Culloden battlefield in1746. |
