The South & Scottish Borders
|
Click for Map & more South &
Borders Information |
In
120AD Emperor Hadrian built
Hadrian's Wall to keep out the unruly Scots.
In 410AD The Romans finally withdrew from Scotland. This results of
400 years of warring rivalry between the tribes of Celts, Picts,
Scots and Saxons can be seen in the remains of various camps and
hill-forts to be found throughout the Borders area.
In the Scottish
Borders, places like Melrose or Kelso are full of personality and they also offer plenty
to do: visiting abbeys or stately homes or museums will take up lots of time. All set in
the rolling hills and rich farmland of the Borders.
Visit Robert Burns cottage at Alloway, the birthplace of Scotland's world famous poet and
Dumfries and Galloway where Robert Burns lived, worked and died. With more than 200miles
of dramatic coastline, majestic wild mountains and moorlands, Dumfries and Galloway has
unspoilt countryside and a natural environment perfect for taking it easy or enjoying
the great outdoors.
